Lillian Masebenza, Founding Director of Mhani Gingi Social Entrepreneurial Network, was winner of the First Edition of the ORIBI Dinner for Change on 26 June 2019.  This contest was part of a pilot ORIBI Village Food System Incubation Programme designed to support social entrepreneurs, organisations and innovators working towards a sustainable and equitable food system.

Mhani Gingi participated in the tailor-made incubation programme created by ORIBI Village and delivered to the first cohort of seven entrepreneurs over 2019.  This led to a partnership with The Southern Africa Food Lab and the University of Stellenbosch.  Masebenza’s prize for winning the pitching competition against two other ORIBI incubees was a video on Mhani Gingi’s work shot by Ekse Lens from Khayelitsha.  She also shared her work on The  Phillipa Hudson Show on Cape Talk radio station on 7 November.

The ORIBI incubation programme held a Closing Event on 12 November at Food Jams in Salt River, Cape Town, to celebrate the innovative solutions that changemakers on the programme had worked on.  Certificates of achievement were awarded.  The evening included a cooking session while the changemakers themselves supplied the ethically and locally sourced food that was served.
